The apple season has already begun, which means autumn is well on its way.
We're quite fond of autumn, because then we can start sipping our ELG Apple Brandy. 🍂 🍎
Distilleries have used apples as far back as the 8th century, but the first distillery to produce apple brandy was in France in 1553. Since then, many cider distilleries have emerged. Apple brandy had its heyday in the 19th century.
Apple brandy is better known as Calvados and received its protected designation in 1942, as it comes from the Calvados district in Normandy, France.
ELG Spirits Apple Brandy is made exclusively from apples and is distilled so that only the best and purest spirit is included. Not the first drops and not the last. Matured in medium-toasted French oak, which has given it a surprisingly round, mild flavor and a beautiful color.
For the production of apple brandy, apple wine is used, which is fermented from apple juice with a high content of aromatic compounds. During fermentation, the juice is converted into apple wine over approx. 3 weeks. The apple wine is then distilled into apple brandy. After distillation, it is reduced to 40% and aged in medium-toasted French oak. It is then bottled in "old" apothecary bottles.
